Job Title: RN - PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years PCU experience required License: RN License required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required Must-Have: - General nursing skills including IV starts, wound care, dressing changes, and drains. - Comfort with central lines, NG tube insertion, tube feeds, PCA pumps, and cardiac rhythm interpretation. - Ability to perform lab draws. - Familiarity with titrating Cardizem, amiodarone, nitro, heparin, and insulin. - EPIC experience required. Description: This progressive care unit is opening with an initial capacity. It serves adult patients with medical-based diagnoses. Common conditions include CHF, COPD, established vents and trachs, GI bleeds, DKA, sepsis, CIWA, patients receiving dialysis, and diabetic patients with insulin drips. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:4. There are 33 beds in the unit, and it is not a trauma designation or teaching hospital. There is no phlebotomy service available; nurses must be comfortable performing lab draws. Travelers will be the first to float to other units, maintaining a 1:4 ratio. Support includes CNAs, charge nurse, and respiratory therapy 24/7. There is an anesthesia team available 24/7 for assistance. The unit culture values a collaborative and supportive environment. Navy blue scrubs are required. There is a weekend rotation, with the expectation to work 75% of the holidays in the contract. RTO approval may include up to 7 days with manager's approval for additional requests. The schedule operates on a 6-week self-scheduling cycle, with manager approval for any changes.
