Job Title: RN - Progressive Care Unit Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years PCU experience; first-time travelers will be considered with more than 5 years of PCU experience. License: Current RN license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - General nursing skills, including IV starts, wound care, dressing changes, central line dressing changes, and NG tube insertion. - Comfortable with performing lab draws, titrating drips (Cardizem, amiodarone, nitro, heparin, insulin with Endotool). - Experience with EPIC required. - Willing to learn about care for ventilated patients and Precedex drips. Description: This is a new unit set to open soon. It will initially function at 50% capacity and will expand over time. The unit has 33 beds specifically for medical-based progressive care. Patient demographics include adults with diagnoses such as CHF, COPD, GI bleeds, DKA, and sepsis. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:4. There is a support team of CNAs and a charge nurse on duty. Travelers will be the first to float to other units as needed within scope of practice. If floating mid-shift, travelers will be compensated for travel time. There are no phlebotomists or wound care RNs on staff, so familiarity and comfort with these duties are essential. Pain management with PCA pumps and continuous tube feeds is expected. Monitoring of cardiac rhythms is required as well. The facility offers 24/7 availability of certain specialists for support. Weekend rotation and holiday shift requirements apply. Self-scheduling is available with management approval. Navy blue scrubs are required for this position. Overall, the unit has a supportive culture with a focus on teamwork.
