Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 18 months of PCU experience required License: RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Essential nursing functions Teamwork and communication skills Experience with tracheostomies Cardiac medication administration and interpretation Chest tube management Blood product administration Wound care and dressing changes Management of central lines Description: This facility has 58 licensed beds and does not have a trauma designation. The patient unit consists of 33 beds. Common patient diagnoses include stroke rule out, pneumonia, cellulitis, failure to thrive, altered mental status, chest pain rule out, atrial fibrillation, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Patient ratios are 1 RN to 5-6 patients. Support staff includes CNAs for activities of daily living, vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, and telemetry monitoring. Receptionists assist with call triage and reports. Charge nurses primarily operate without patient assignments. Phlebotomy and IV/VAT teams provide additional support. Resource nurses are available as staffing allows. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7. Hospitalists are on duty 24/7 with a mix of in-person and virtual visits. Telemetry monitoring occurs at the nurses' station and a central monitoring area. Floating may be required within the region and scope of practice as needed. Staff are expected to participate in rotation for weekends and holidays, with travelers required to work 75% of holidays. Requests for time off can be approved up to 6 days, excluding holidays. Scheduling operates on a 6-week cycle. The unit culture emphasizes teamwork and collaboration, ensuring every patient is regarded as everyone's responsibility.
