Job Title: RN - PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Progressive Care Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 18 months of PCU experience License: RN Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Experience with tracheostomies, cardiac medications, cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tubes, blood product administration, wound care/dressing changes, and management of central lines. - Essential nursing functions, teamwork, and communication skills. Description: This position involves caring for patients in a Progressive Care Unit. The unit has 33 beds and accommodates both PCU and MedSurg patients. Common patient types include stroke evaluations, pneumonia, cellulitis, failure to thrive, altered mental status, chest pain evaluations, atrial fibrillation, and COPD. Patient ratios are RN: 1:5-1:6. If applicable, LPNs will take primary nurse assignments with the same ratios. CNAs will support with ratios of 1:8-1:12. Support roles within the department include CNAs for activities of daily living, vital signs, blood sugar monitoring, and telemetry monitoring. Receptionists assist with call triage and administrative tasks. Charge nurses may work without a patient assignment. Phlebotomy and IV/VAT team support are available. Resource nurses may assist as staffing allows. Respiratory Therapy is present 24/7. Hospitalists are available 24/7 with a mix of in-person and virtual support. Telemetry monitoring is conducted both at the nurses' station and in a central monitoring area. Nurse travelers should be willing to float within their scope of practice as needed. Floating to multiple facilities may occur, typically with prior notice. When floating mid-shift, travelers will be compensated for travel time. Scheduling includes every other weekend rotation and potential low census call. Travelers should expect to work 75% of holidays. Requests for time off will be considered up to six days, excluding holidays, and must be added to the end of the contract if unable to meet contracted hours. Shift times are 7 AM - 7 PM or 7 PM - 7 AM, with a six-week scheduling cycle. Scrub color is navy blue. The unit culture emphasizes teamwork, with a strong focus on patient experience.
