Job Title: Registered Nurse - PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Stroke Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 2 Years Minimum in Acute Care License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: PCU level RN NIHSS experience Central line management/placement Foley catheter management Tube feedings via NGT or PEG Arterial lines experience Diabetes management Drip titration for Levophed, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Insulin Ability to pass an EKG competency exam prior to arrival Description: Responsibilities include providing care for patients with CVA and TIA. Patient ratios are RN: 1:3 and CNA: 1:6. Adequate PPE will be provided. Charge nurse will take patient assignments depending on staffing levels. Phlebotomy services are not available on the unit. A VAT team is available for PICC/midline placements. A resource nurse is present on the unit. Respiratory therapy, hospitalist, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy are available 24/7. The EMR system utilized is Meditech Expanse. IV pumps used are Alaris, and medication dispensing is through Pyxis. Staff may be required to float to stepdown and med-surg units frequently. Mandatory scheduling includes every other weekend with a potential rotation of 3/2 or 5/2. Time off requests are limited to one weekend per 13-week contract and cannot exceed seven days. Expectations for holiday work include completing shifts for 2 or 3 major holidays. Professionalism is required, including no cell phone usage, no earbuds, and no eating at desks in patient care areas. Scrub color is pewter, with T-shirts being gray, white, or black with a monogram. Jackets must be gray or black, and badges must be worn above the waist and visible at all times.
