Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 19:00 - 07:00 Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Active RN license Certifications: BLS certification Must-Have: Med/Surg experience Ability to prioritize care Ability to multitask Proficient in starting IVs Basic wound care skills Ability to maintain surgical drains Experience with nasogastric tubes and chest tubes Description: The unit has a total of 20 beds and maintains a patient ratio of 6:1. Tech support is available on both day and night shifts. Unit secretaries are present from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Equipment used on the unit includes IV pumps, telemetry, SCDs, continuous pulse oximetry machines, feeding pumps, PCA, EKG machines, and bladder scanners. Communication technology used includes iMobile. The documentation system utilized is Meditech. Scheduling requires three 12-hour shifts per week, including two weekends. Floating policy indicates that contract labor is first to float, with rotation used when multiple staff members are scheduled. Patient experience requires providing attentive and compassionate care to patients and family members. Staff are expected to perform bedside shift reports, create personal connections with patients, and involve patients and family members in the care plan. The unit is certified for comprehensive stroke care and as an ACS verified Level II trauma center, as well as being a certified chest pain center. Candidates are expected to possess advanced skills sufficient for the specific unit needs. Dress code consists of navy scrubs for both tops and bottoms. Candidates may be informed of any awards or recognition received by the department to entice selection for the assignment. All other measures and guidelines on unit policies must be observed.
