Description:
The unit has 34 beds and 25 beds across different sections.
Patient ratios are 1:4 to 1:5 during the day and 1:5 to 1:6 at night.
There are three technicians available when the larger unit is full and two when the smaller unit is full.
Equipment used includes bipaps, high flow oxygen, vapotherm, alaris pumps, cardiac drips, heparin drips, insulin drips, and peritoneal dialysis.
Wound vacs are utilized in conjunction with wound care.
The documentation system in use is Meditech.
Scheduling requires a commitment to work every other weekend and three 12-hour shifts per week.
Floating may be required between units or to medical-surgical floors.
Patient experience requirements include hourly rounding on days and every two hours on nights, using AIDET, and maintaining communication boards.
Advanced skills required include ACLS certification.
Procedures performed on the unit include peritoneal dialysis, thoracentesis, paracentesis, chest tube insertions, dobhoff/NG tube insertions, and central line dressing changes.
Wound vac troubleshooting is also part of the responsibilities.
Uniform is black scrubs.
Self-scheduling is available, and schedules are created every four weeks.
Travelers typically extend their work after the initial contract due to a family-like culture and strong teamwork within the unit.
