This role assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame. Care is provided via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial, and human resources. Responsibilities include performing all duties required by the unit specific to the scope of service. The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintaining up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care is essential. The RN completes an initial assessment upon patient admission and develops an appropriate plan of care. This plan must align with unit standards and be based on patient and family needs. The RN implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Continuous evaluation leads to modifications of the plan of care as necessary. Patient and employee safety is a priority, requiring reporting and correction of safety hazards and incidents. Effective communication is critical, ensuring issues are resolved directly and privately when necessary. RNs offer constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers. Collaboration with colleagues expands the knowledge base. Identifying personal learning needs is imperative, taking the initiative to seek solutions. All departmental competencies must be fulfilled. Receiving patient Bedside Shift Report is essential for ensuring comprehensive shift transitions. The RN delegates patient care tasks to assigned healthcare team members and validates completion.
