Description:
This position is for a critical care registered nurse.
The nurse will work procedural pre and post for patients.
The patient population includes adults, occasional adolescents, and the geriatric population.
Surgical patients may include those recovering from neurosurgery, ENT, plastics, orthopedics, thoracic, vascular, trauma, general, colorectal, GYN, urological, electrophysiology, interventional radiology, and transplant surgeries.
Open heart surgeries and liver transplants are not included in this role.
The unit is open 24/7 and consists of 38 patient bays.
The average daily census ranges from 70 to 90 patients.
Staff members will be responsible for the recovery of a wide array of acute postoperative patients.
Some patients may require artificial airways, invasive monitoring, transfusions, and vasoactive drugs.
Critical care experience is mandatory for this role.
Nurses are expected to provide care for ventilated patients.
Experience with drains, vasoactive drips, mechanical ventilation, and recovery from general anesthesia is essential.
Additional skills required include IV start and maintenance, phlebotomy, dysrhythmia recognition and management, and blood product administration.
Nurses may also be required to float within the service line for PACU or PreOp units as needed.
Free weekends, holidays, and call duty are part of this position.
Support services include respiratory services and rapid response teams.
The nursing staff must demonstrate the ability to deliver comprehensive postoperative care in a fast-paced environment.
