Job Title: Registered Nurse - PACU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Anesthesia Services Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Variable Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 2-3 years in PACU setting License: Active Registered Nurse License Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS Must-Have: - Charting experience with Cerner or EPIC - Insulin gtt, electrolyte and Heparin protocols - Pre-op experience Description: ASAP start needed. Manager interviews will be conducted. Shift hours are from 0530 to 1500. On-call duty is required. Weekend shifts may require being on-call. The facility has approximately 37 recovery rooms, 12 designated for outpatients, 11 for inpatients, and 6 used for overflow, staging, and extended stay patients. The facility manages approximately 50 cases daily, with 24/7 OR coverage. Recovery will involve inpatient and outpatient procedures. Surgeries will range from simple to complex, including MAC anesthesia, General anesthesia, and spinals. Occasionally, patients requiring ICU and ventilator support will be seen. Procedures include trauma and orthopedics, total hip/knee and shoulder arthroplasties, GYN surgeries such as urinary slings, hysterectomies, BSOs, post C-sections, breast biopsies, resections, and thoracic surgeries like lobectomies. Additional procedures include colostomies, hernias, carpal tunnels, GU procedures such as cystoscopy and laser lithotripsies, Whipple procedures, nephrectomies, neurosurgeries like craniotomies and shunts, gastrectomies, and interventional radiology/cardiology procedures. Pediatric cases will include dental hygiene, eye surgeries, pain management pump placements, ports, and hemorrhoidectomies. Patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:1-2, following ASPN guidelines. Nurses may assist in pre-op before transitioning to PACU, or may exclusively work in pre-op on some shifts. Experience with ICU holds, ventilator management, and critical care drips is essential. Call schedule includes once per month, which may occur during scheduled workdays. Responding to call must be within 30 minutes. Travelers will wear hospital scrubs during their shifts. Daily staffing in PACU typically includes 11 nurses, with 2-3 working overnight shifts. Discharge responsibilities encompass the entire unit from pre-op through discharge.
