Job Summary:
Pediatric Recovery Room (PACU Pediatrics) nurse position in a healthcare facility located in San Francisco, California. This role involves providing specialized post-anesthesia care for pediatric patients, with a focus on high acuity cases such as pediatric heart center patients. The position requires flexibility to float within the facility or to other UCSF facilities, with shifts predominantly in 12-hour day and evening hours.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: 12-hour shifts, start times between 06:00 and 10:00, with a minimum of 36 hours per week. Shifts may include three 12-hour shifts, a combination of 8- and 12-hour shifts, or five 8-hour shifts, every 4 weeks.
  • Required Qualifications: California Registered Nurse (RN) license; BSN degree; American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS); Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS); Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS); minimum of 2 years of experience, with demonstrated expertise in Pediatric Preoperative and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) settings and Pediatric Critical Care. References must be in hand at the time of submission.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN or CPNC), Certified Pediatric Advanced Practice Nurse (CAPA).
  • Additional Information:
    • Experience with inpatient pediatric PACU units, including triage and high acuity care.
    • Familiarity with electronic charting systems, specifically Epic (refer to UD for requirements).
    • Ability to manage patient ratios of 2 patients per nurse on nights and weekends.
    • Experience working with pediatric patients with diagnoses including ENT/OHNS, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Plastics, Vascular, Transplants, Hematology/Oncology, Gastroenterology, Urology, Gynecology, General Surgery, and Dental.
    • Patient population includes adolescents, infants, and adults in a daily census of approximately 30 patients, with around 40 visits per day and 31 beds available.
    • Knowledge of dealing with traaches and home vents, Veinfinder device preferred.
    • Floating to other departments or facilities within a 75+ mile radius may be required during assignment.
    • Complete all required modules prior to start, including non-billable pre-start and annual training.
    • Start date is scheduled for August 18, 2026, with orientation at 4:00 pm PST on the Monday before the start date.
