Travel Operating Room RN – GU/GYN/Transplant

Facility: University Hospital
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Specialty: Tier 5 GU/GYN/Transplant OR
Shift: Day/Evening, three 12-hour shifts per week
Primary Hours: 6:40 AM–7:10 PM
Weekend Rotation: Required
Weekday Call: Required
Charting: Epic
Patient Population: Adolescents, adults, and geriatrics

Position Overview

Seeking a highly experienced Operating Room RN for a complex GU, Gynecologic Oncology, transplant, procurement, and robotic surgery team. Candidates must be clinically independent and able to circulate advanced transplant and robotic procedures with minimal orientation.

Non-Negotiable Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of recent acute-care OR experience within the past 3 years
• Recent Urology experience
• Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology experience
• Kidney transplant experience
• Pancreas transplant experience
• Organ procurement experience
• Robotic surgery experience
• Da Vinci Xi experience
• Must be comfortable floating as needed

Required Clinical Skills

• General OR circulating
• Administration of blood and blood products
• Specimen handling and labeling
• Infection control and sterile technique
• Universal Protocol and surgical time-out
• Malignant hyperthermia response
• Fire and laser safety
• Code response
• Urinary catheterization
• Laparoscopic and robotic-assisted procedures

Required Credentials

• Active RN license
• AHA BLS

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous Charge Nurse experience
• Level I or Level II trauma experience

Scheduling

• Three 12-hour shifts per week
• Weekend rotation required
• Weekday call required
• Travelers may float based on department and hospital needs

Local Candidate Policy

• Candidates residing within 50 miles are not accepted

Required Testing

A pass/fail telemetry exam is required before the assignment begins.

Adult Exam Requirements

• 100% identification of ventricular fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, and asystole
• No incorrect answers involving third-degree heart block
• Minimum overall score of 80%

Pediatric Exam Requirements

• Identification of ventricular fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, asystole, and sinus bradycardia
• Minimum overall score of 80%

Candidates receive two initial attempts. After a second failure, completion of a cardiac rhythm interpretation review course is required before a third attempt. Failure after the third attempt will result in assignment cancellation.
