Surgery Nurse Manager – Surgical Services (TDY Contract)

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, organize, and direct all operations and staff (clinical and non-clinical) within the Surgical Services Department, including the Operating Room, Outpatient Surgical Services, Anesthesia, and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
  • Coordinate scheduling of visiting specialists to maintain an effective OR schedule and ensure continuity of surgical services
  • Oversee fiscal, material, and human resource management of the department; participate in development and implementation of departmental and hospital policies and procedures
  • Articulate and enforce standards for quality and safe patient care; develop and implement clinical outcome measures for quality improvement, cost reduction, and evidence-based practice
  • Interpret, implement, and monitor compliance with TJC, state, and federal regulations pertaining to department functions
  • Maintain open communication with department staff to foster a Culture of Safety and engage staff in Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications
  • Completed program of education in nursing from an NLN-approved institution
  • Current licensure in good standing as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) in the State of Alaska
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an operating room setting
  • Minimum of 2 years of surgical services management experience (surgery center or equivalent)
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
  • Knowledge of AORN Guidelines and Perioperative Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • BSN, MSN, or Master's degree in a healthcare or Business Administration-related field preferred
  • Certified Nursing Operating Room (CNOR) certification preferred; Certified Surgical Services Manager (CSSM) preferred (attainment within 6 months considered)
  • Experience with electronic health record systems, Cerner preferred
  • Knowledge of budgets, reimbursements, coding, claims processing, and fiscal management
