Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) to provide high-quality perioperative nursing care for pediatric through geriatric patients. The OR RN will utilize current perioperative nursing knowledge and follow AORN Standards and Recommended Practices to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered care throughout the surgical process.

This role is responsible to the Director of Surgical Services, Unit Director/Manager, Clinical Supervisor, and/or designee for overall nursing practice and clinical excellence.

Schedule:
  • Shift Length: 8-hour shifts
  • Shift Times:
    • 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM
    • 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
    • 11:00 AM – 7:30 PM
  • Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Weekend Coverage: Voluntary
  • Call: Voluntary
Key Responsibilities: Patient Assessment & Care Planning:
  • Perform ongoing patient assessments in the holding area, operative suite, and post-operative setting.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously update individualized plans of care based on patient needs and surgical interventions.
  • Identify patient strengths, weaknesses, and potential risks related to surgery.
  • Establish measurable goals and nursing interventions based on clinical assessments.
Perioperative Nursing Care:
  • Provide professional perioperative nursing care using the nursing process.
  • Ensure all required supplies and equipment are available, functional, and ready for procedures.
  • Create and maintain a sterile field throughout surgical procedures using aseptic principles.
  • Recognize physiological changes during surgery and respond appropriately to maintain patient safety.
  • Apply safe practices related to positioning, surgical technique, electrical, chemical, and laser safety.
  • Handle surgical specimens, cultures, and foreign bodies according to policy and procedure.
  • Document all patient care activities, changes in condition, and updates to the care plan.
Patient & Family Education:
  • Educate patients and families on perioperative processes, surgical nursing functions, and operating room expectations.
  • Provide preoperative teaching and answer questions in a compassionate and professional manner.
  • Accurately document patient/family interactions and education provided.
Professional Practice:
  • Maintain competency in perioperative nursing practices and remain current on trends, ethics, scientific advances, and biomedical equipment.
  • Participate as an effective team member and maintain professional communication with physicians, staff, patients, and families.
  • Demonstrate emotional resilience, sound judgment, tact, and professionalism in high-pressure situations.
