Job Title: Operating Room Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Operating Room Duration: 6 weeks Shift: 7 AM - 5 PM Hours per Shift: 10 Experience: Minimum 2 years of Operating Room experience preferred License: Current Registered Nurse license in the State of New York Certifications: Basic Life Support Certification, Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification Must-Have: Must scrub and circulate Description: Operating Room nurses provide 1:1 patient care to patients before, during, and after surgery. Cases include, but are not limited to, general surgery, orthopedics, vascular, ENT, ophthalmology, urology, endoscopy, and gynecology. Provide direct patient care to neonate through geriatric patient populations. Demonstrate knowledge of anesthetic drugs, actions, and side effects. Demonstrate knowledge of arterial lines, Swan-Ganz, spinal and epidural catheters and how to document appropriately. Perform pre-op and post-op patient care addressing psychosocial, physical, and general aspects of care related to the surgical environment plan of care. Demonstrate appropriate priority development in performing circulating duties in emergency situations. Properly open sterile items and transfer them correctly to the sterile field. Correctly pour sterile solutions to the sterile field, ensuring all medication/solutions are labeled. Perform and document all surgical counts as per standards and procedures. Oversee the flash sterilization of items, ensuring sterility with the process parameters, documentation, and transfer of those items to the sterile field. Properly handle, document, and label all surgical specimens and cultures. Demonstrate proper ordering, handling, and administration of blood products and blood work. Demonstrate knowledge and ability to safely operate mechanical, electrical, and powered equipment according to manufacturer's instructions. Communicate with the surgical team about patient conditions continuously and as needed. Follow and maintain surgical standards, universal precautions, and departmental procedures for pre-op, intra-op, and post-op patient care.
