Certifications: BLS (American Heart Association) Must-Have: General OR, OR RN, BLS - AHA Description: The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver. They assume responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame. They provide care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, trends, technology, financial, and human resources within the philosophy of the institution. They perform all responsibilities and duties required by the unit specific to the scope of service. They implement procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. They maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided. They ensure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team. They complete initial assessments upon patient admission. They develop appropriate plans of care in accordance with unit standards based on patient and family needs. They implement the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. They modify the plan of care based upon continuous evaluation. They take responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. They communicate with others directly and privately when necessary to resolve issues. They offer constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers. They confer with colleagues to expand their knowledge base. They identify their own learning needs and take initiative to begin appropriate solutions. They fulfill all requirements of departmental competencies. They prepare the OR Suite for patients, including supplies, equipment, medications, and other needs. They interview patients using two identifiers (name and date of birth). They transport patients to the appropriate OR Suite and onto the OR Table using safety precautions. They perform timeouts upon entry of the suite, prior to incision, and prior to exiting the OR suite. They appropriately position and prep patients for procedures utilizing positional aides and guidelines. They support the surgical team during procedures by responding to requests from the team. They assist with extra supplies, blood, specimens, cultures, other medications, and dressings. They transport patients to PACU or the specific unit and provide handoff to the receiving RN.
