Job Title: Staff Nurse Specialty Care Profession: Nursing Specialty: Cardiothoracic Surgery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Rotational Hours per Shift: 10 hours (M-F, 7am - 5:30pm) Experience: Minimum of six months to three years of nursing (RN) experience License: Current Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS Certification Must-Have: EPIC knowledge Description: The Registered Nurse (RN) protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities. The role involves the prevention of illness and injury, and the alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response. Advocacy in the care of individuals and families is a key responsibility. The RN is responsible and accountable for compliance with all standards of practice and professional development. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, delegating, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating nursing care. The RN serves as a primary nurse or accountable nurse as designated by unit assignment, focusing on safety, effectiveness, competency, cost, and impact. Patient and family education in health promotion and disease management is essential. Working knowledge of pharmacology is necessary to safely administer medications according to policy. The RN shares responsibility for productivity and effective resource utilization, including staffing, time management, supplies, and services. Compliance with all nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and policies is mandatory. Participation in the Nursing Shared Governance Model by supporting improvement initiatives and contributing to peer review practices is expected. Active engagement in professional development and completion of mandatory education requirements is essential. Integration of nursing research and current evidence into practice is a priority. The RN provides a supportive learning environment for new employees and students. Duties may include performing tasks related to the Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator role when assigned. Participation in the Clinical Ladder Program as knowledge and expertise develop is encouraged. Additional duties may be assigned as needed. Call responsibilities extend from the end of the worked shift until the start of the next scheduled shift. Weekend coverage may be required, starting from Friday after the shift worked and ending Monday morning.
