Goes out of his/her way to offer assistance to others. If unable to assist, finds someone who can. Advocates to ensure privacy and confidentiality while helping others maintain awareness. Maintains a clean and safe environment. Responds appropriately and immediately in emergency situations. Ensures a safe and healthy environment for patients and staff to provide the highest level of physical comfort while minimizing risk and injury. Ensures compliance with regulations to maintain accreditation and licensure. Complies with attendance and tardiness policies. Completes all mandatory requirements annually. Reports incidents in a timely and effective manner. Engages in and enforces compliance with hand hygiene practices. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing interventions, plans of care, and patient goals. Provides patient care based on standards of care, practice, protocols, and established policies and procedures. Respects each patient as an individual and provides care that fosters dignity and positive self-regard. Provides patient and family education based on identified learning needs. Collaboratively plans and prepares patients and families for discharge incorporating necessary support systems. Delegates and supervises nursing interventions performed by others appropriately. Prioritizes patient care effectively, seeking assistance and reassigning personnel as necessary. Documents all pertinent data, interventions, and patient responses according to established standards. Provides timely and thorough reports on assigned patients to ensure integration of services and continuity of care. Promotes learning for colleagues and self through mentoring and professional development. Identifies risks to patient safety and opportunities to reduce healthcare errors. Identifies ethical issues in care and develops plans to address them. Administers medications and intravenous therapy safely per physician's orders and established protocols. Assesses and reassesses patient pain levels and effectiveness of pain control. Collaborates with the surgical team to ensure patient well-being during surgical interventions. Maintains sterile fields and directs the care, handling, and sterilization of supplies and instruments. Identifies patients correctly by checking identification bands and consent forms as well as verifying the operative procedure and site. Applies principles of aseptic practice and oversees the preparation of surgical supplies and equipment. Applies principles of body mechanics during patient positioning and transfer. Maintains accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments according to established policies. Identifies, labels, and handles all specimens and cultures according to established procedures.
