Job Title: Operating Room Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Operating Room / Circulation & Scrub Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 8 hr shifts M-F; Rotate through 0630-1500, 0900-1730, and 1100-1930 Hours per Shift: 36 Guaranteed Hours Experience: 2 years prior Operating Room experience required License: Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Pennsylvania Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Must-Have: Completion of an accredited registered nurse program is required; BSN preferred. Effective communication skills and ability to function as a team member. Knowledge of perioperative nursing practices. Mental and emotional tolerance when dealing with patients and families. Responsibility for maintaining knowledge and skills in peri-operative nursing. Description: Provides professional nursing care based on current perioperative nursing knowledge. Utilizes the nursing process through assessment of the patient and pertinent health data. Analyzes collected data based on perioperative nursing theory and experience. Develops a plan of care to meet patient needs. Implements nursing interventions based on current practice standards. Evaluates patient care outcomes for the pediatric through geriatric age population. Develops a plan of care based on ongoing assessment of the patient in the holding area, operative suite, and post-operative setting. Identifies strengths and weaknesses and adapts to current surgical interventions. Updates the plan constantly to meet existing or potential patient problems. States goals and nursing interventions based on patient assessment during surgical intervention. Ensures supplies and equipment for surgical patient care are readily available and functional. Creates and maintains a sterile field through the procedure based on principles of asepsis. Implements perioperative nursing techniques and responds appropriately to physiological changes during the operative procedure. Recognizes changes in healthcare status and directs appropriate care for patient safety. Applies principles of aseptic technique, surgical technique, electrical, chemical, and laser safety, positioning, and patient care management. Demonstrates care and disposition of surgical specimens and cultures. Documents individualized changes in the plan of care. Implements health education by providing information to the patient and family relating to specific surgical nursing functions. Documents patient interactions appropriately. Accepts responsibility and accountability for maintaining knowledge, skills, and competency in perioperative nursing. Maintains awareness of professional issues and remains current on concepts, trends, and scientific advances related to perioperative nursing.
