The RN is responsible for the prevention of illness and injury and the alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human responses. The RN serves as an advocate in the care of individuals and families. The RN is responsible and accountable for compliance with all standards of practice and professional development. This includes adherence to the Nurse Practice Act, policies, and the Code of Ethics for Nurses. The RN promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care. The RN is responsible for assessing, planning, delegating, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating nursing care. The RN manages a group of patients and serves as the primary or accountable nurse, as designated by unit assignment. Safety, effectiveness, competency, cost, and impact are considered in patient care management. The RN educates patients and families in health promotion and disease management using available resources. A working knowledge of pharmacology is utilized, and medications are administered safely as per policy. The RN shares in the responsibility for productivity and effective resource utilization, including staffing and time management. Compliance with all nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements is essential. Active participation and support of the Nursing Shared Governance Model is expected. This includes participation in improvement initiatives and contributing to peer review practices. The RN actively engages in professional development and completes all mandatory education requirements. Integration of nursing research and current evidence into practice is crucial. The RN provides a supportive learning environment for new employees and students. All values of the organization are to be followed. Other duties as assigned may be performed as necessary.
