Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Oncology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Active license required Certifications: BLS; ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate Must-Have: Experience with IV chemotherapy and immunotherapy regimens Description: The unit consists of 19 beds, all private. Staffing ratios are based on unit census with 1:5 on days and 1:6 on nights. Ratios can vary from 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights. 1:1 staffing is available for specific medications and therapies. Common diagnoses include all types of cancer, with a focus on lymphoma and leukemia, hematology, and medical patients. Care is also provided for radiation oncology and gynecologic oncology patients. Experience required in administering and monitoring side effects of IV chemotherapy and immunotherapy medications. Registered Nurses do not titrate drips unless there is an order from a physician. Set rate drips include heparin and continuous chemotherapy infusions. A charge nurse is present 24/7 and typically does not take an assignment unless needed. House supervisors are available 24/7. Patient Care Technicians are utilized on the unit based on census volume. There are typically 3 Patient Care Technicians present during the day shift and 2 during the night shift. Registered Nurses are not required to interpret telemetry strips as telemetry technicians are available. Shifts are 12 hours, starting at 0700 or 1900, with scheduling based on unit needs. Self-scheduling is available, with requests managed by the charge nurse. Registered Nurses work every other weekend and holiday. Floating may occur based on staffing needs. No specific scrub color is required. The unit uses an electronic medical record system for documentation. Experience in administering IV chemotherapy and immunotherapy medications is essential.
