Job Title: Oncology Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Oncology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year experience required License: Illinois license required Certifications: BLS, Chemotherapy Certification preferred Must-Have: Administration of chemotherapy, IV therapy/infusion skills, management of adverse effects of chemotherapy Description: Candidates must have experience in administering chemotherapy. They should be skilled in IV therapy and accessing ports. Experience with patient care in an oncology setting is essential. Candidates will work every other weekend. Staffing will include an average daily census of 24 patients. Ability to recognize and communicate abnormal lab values is required. Candidates must have knowledge of chemotherapy protocols and safety measures. A commitment to supporting patients and families throughout treatment is expected. Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams is essential for patient care. Attending to the management and disposal of cytotoxic spills is necessary. Candidates should be adaptable to floating within the facility as needed. It is preferred that candidates have experience with Cerner charting system. Ongoing education and compliance with institutional standards are required. Patient diagnoses will vary, with a primary focus on oncology and hospice care. Effective communication skills are vital for supporting both patients and families. Candidates must be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment. Availability for additional training related to chemotherapy administration is essential. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in starting and maintaining IVs. Handling post-chemotherapy body fluids safely is a critical responsibility. Experience with managing side effects of chemotherapy and providing patient education is a must. Candidates should uphold a high standard of patient care and professionalism.
