Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Oncology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 1 year of Oncology/Chemotherapy experience required License: State nursing license required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, Chemotherapy Certification (ONS/ONCC) required Must-Have: Oncology experience required Administration of chemotherapy Accessing and managing ports Central line blood draw and care PICC line care Starting and maintaining IVs Telemetry interpretation and monitoring Description: BMT Oncology position available. Chemotherapy administration experience is required. The candidate will need to pass an EKG exam. Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias are essential. Floating throughout the Oncology department as needed is required. The nurse may be assigned to units with the greatest need per shift. The nurse will not always be working specifically in one unit. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 4:1 for all shifts. The average daily census in the unit is 32 patients. Auto stem cell transplants will be part of the responsibilities. Every other weekend shift is required. Candidates should have experience with managing complications from blood cancers. Familiarity with handling cytotoxic spills and isolation precautions is necessary. Experience in administering blood products and antibiotics is essential. Knowledge of acute tumor lysis syndrome is a plus. Candidates should also have skills in managing side effects and recognizing abnormal lab values. The work environment includes collaborative support from interdisciplinary teams. Candidates are expected to provide high-quality patient care. The role may involve managing patients with leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. Always adhere to safety protocols and infection control measures. Must be able to communicate effectively with patients and families. Decision-making and critical thinking skills are essential for this role. Ability to manage and document care accurately in a charting system is necessary. Additional procedures may be required based on patient needs.
