Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Oncology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years required; will accept first-time travelers. License: Valid nursing license required. Certifications: Oncology certification required; must be able to administer chemotherapy if needed. Must-Have: Experience in an inpatient setting is required. Skills in Med/Surg, colostomy care, accessing ports, blood product administration, central line blood draw, and peripheral line management. PICC line management, heparin, insulin, surgical drains, chest tubes, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, and wound care experience. Description: This position is for skilled registered nurses specializing in Medical Surgical Oncology. The primary patient population consists of general medical-surgical patients with an oncology history. The staff will administer chemotherapy or biotherapy via IV, PO, or injection. Patient diagnoses include AKI, sepsis, septic shock, malignant neoplasms, and diabetic foot ulcers. Typical staffing ratios are targeted at 1:6. Weekend work is required every other weekend. Call is required if called off on a prescheduled shift. Travelers may be required to float to similar units or alternate care locations. Attendance at monthly staff meetings is mandatory. During times of increased census, staffing ratios may be higher. Contract staff may be required to report to work during mass casualties or disasters. The daily census for the unit is approximately 42 patients. Contract staff will be assigned equally with home unit staff to ensure appropriate patient coverage.
