Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Pediatric Oncology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of pediatric hematology oncology experience with central line management experience License: California RN license required Certifications: APHON, BLS (AHA), PALS (AHA) Must-Have: Strong inpatient Hematology/Oncology background; EPIC experience highly preferred; BMT experience preferred Description: This position is for a pediatric oncology registered nurse. The nurse will care for patients with various hematology and oncology conditions. The unit consists of 38 beds and focuses on BMT, blood cell transplantation, neuroblastoma, anemia, leukemia, lymphoma, solid tumors, hemophilia, ITP, sickle cell anemia, and other hemoglobinopathies. The role requires knowledge of IV therapy, sedation procedures, post-operative care, central line management, blood products, and chemotherapeutic agents. The position does not require floating to other units. Candidates must be willing to work four weekend shifts in a four-week period. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and provide patient and family education and support. Experience with accessing and managing ports, administering chemotherapy, and monitoring side effects is essential. The nurse will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for optimal patient care. Additional expectations include managing potential complications related to treatments, such as acute tumor lysis syndrome and graft versus host disease. Overall, the nurse is expected to maintain high standards of care and support for pediatric oncology patients and their families.
