EDUCATION Completion of an accredited Registered Nursing Program BSN preferred   2. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES         Registered Nurse with current California RN license.         Current BLS certification.         ACLS certification.         Basic EKG/tele interpretation experience required OR completing a Basic EKG class within six months of employment   3. EXPERIENCE Two (2) years of recent department specific experience required. 1-2 years Charge nurse, supervisory expertise in department specific . 1. GENERAL ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Treats everyone with dignity and respect and encourages collaborative relationships with collegues, community providers, patients and family members. Consistently identifies ways to improve customer service and feedback while reducing customer/patient complaints. Regularly attends department meetings, Town Hall meetings and staff recognition events as appropriate. Actively participates in department, hospital, and facility committees. Assures timely compliance with job requirements which may include, annual FIT Testing, TB, Flu Vaccination, LMS, licensure and certification renewals. Identifies own educational needs and seeks appropriate learning experience. Adheres to facility and department attendance requirements. Keeps work area clean, organized and clutter free. Notifies Office Manager as appropriate. Ensures department has equipment and supplies necessary to provide consistent quality and service delivery. Reports any unsafe situations or safety hazards immediately. Labels and removes any malfunctioning equipment from service and notifies the Facilities Department. Participates in Emergency Preparedness Drills. Demonstrates through practice drills and upon request understanding of his/her role in the event of an emergency or disaster.   2. COMMUNICATON / WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:     Interacts with patients, families, guests, medical staff, and peers in a professional and timely manner.   Follows the chain of command and escalates issues or concerns appropriately.   Utilizes effective communication and interpersonal skills to support the total health care needs of the care team, the patient and assist family members.   Communicates and coordinates patient requirements with ancillary departments.   Answers and routes incoming calls in an appropriate manner and takes messages when possible.   Refrains from all unprofessional discussions and remains positive at all times.   Respects patient privacy and confidentiatlity, following all HIPAA laws.   3. POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Planning Assists with the planning and yearly needs assessment for the unit s budget. Under the guidance of the manager, monitors patient care activities within budget/monitors staff usage.  This includes: Ensuring staff breaks occur and/or communicating with manager when there are roadblocks. Assisting staff in avoidance of incremental overtime. Demonstrates good understanding of budget concepts, including monitoring of premium labor. Assisting with schedules and ensuring appropriate number of staff allocated daily Adjusting staffing, in collaboration with the Director/Manager/House Supervisor, as census or patient acuity change. Identifying opportunities throughout the shift to improve unit labor efficiency, i.e., evaluating need for sitters, consolidating med/surg patients to MS unit under MS staffing ratios, utilizing SAFE when appropriate, facilitates discharges, etc. Cost Control Identifies and takes a proactive stance on cost reduction opportunities on a regular basis.  Examples include noting linen or supply overuse in patient rooms, decrease overuse of biohazard waste, making suggestions for unit efficiencies, etc. Capital Equipment/Procurement Participates in the identification of needed capital items and any product evaluations ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITY: Patient Safety-In collaboration with manager, works with Medical Staff and other departments to ensure coordination and integration of clinical processes to ensure patient safety and regulatory compliance. Utilizes chain of command with patient safety concerns that require Manager/ Director, Risk Management and/ or Administration on Call guidance/ intervention. Purposeful patient rounding is completed at every shift to monitor environment for safety concerns that require intervention and enhance patient satisfaction. Customer Service/Guest Relations Role model for coordinating and integrating interdepartmental communication and resolution of issues. Demonstrates effective communication skills/handles complaints and grievances in a timely and effective manner/participates in conflict resolution.  Displays strong skills in Service Recovery. Ability to coordinate with Manager/ Director and/ or Patient Advocate with patient concerns that require administration intervention. Quality Active member of performance improvement activities in the department and Core Measures.  Active participant in concurrent record reviews for completeness of documentation of nursing care. Policy Development In partnership with the Director/Manager, develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services.  Provides input for P/P development. Regulatory Compliance Demonstrates strong commitment to following hospital policy and all healthcare regulations.  Demonstrates professionalism and helpfulness to surveyors. Screens and completes HPRR s pertinent to department, identifies trends and collaborates with manager to resolve issues by assisting in the investigation process of HPRRs. Actively participates in designated hospital committees, including regular attendance at Clinical Supervisor meetings (required to attend 80% of meetings held). Shows a high degree of professional accountability by reviewing email regularly, completing LMS   assignments on time, reviewing meeting minutes timely and communicating pertinent issues. Actively participates in shift huddles, bed huddle, staff meetings and IDT meetings as scheduled.
