Registered Nurse – Neuro ICU

Schedule / Job TypeContract | Full-Time | Onsite | Night Shift | 12-Hour Shifts | Every Other Weekend | Rotating Holidays
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care in an 18-bed Neuro ICU at a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio, managing complex neurological diagnoses including stroke with and without tPA, ventriculostomy patients, and post-craniectomy cases
- Titrate and manage physician-ordered drips as required by patient acuity and clinical orders
- Operate and troubleshoot respiratory therapy equipment including ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow devices
- Monitor, read, and interpret telemetry strips using Philips monitoring systems alongside unit tele techs
- Manage arterial lines, central lines, and ventriculostomies, and apply NIH Stroke Scale assessments as part of acute stroke management protocols
- Float as needed to intermediate care units (1:3 ratio) or general floor units (1:4 ratio) based on staffing needs
Required Qualifications- Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification
- Demonstrated experience with ventriculostomy management, arterial lines, and central lines
- Experience with ventilator management and acute stroke protocols including tPA administration
- Ability to pass a drug screen; must comply with a drug-free campus policy
Preferred Experience / Skills- Prior experience in a Neuro ICU or high-acuity neurological care setting
- Familiarity with post-craniectomy patient care and management
- Experience reading and interpreting telemetry strips independently
