Description:
This unit has 54 beds and consists of semi-private rooms.
Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 during the day shift and 1:5-6 during the night shift.
Common diagnoses include stroke, spine surgery, seizures, brain tumors, head injuries, and other neuroscience cases, with some medical overflow.
RNs are required to titrate drips, including Heparin titrated drip based on PTT.
Charge nurses are present 24/7 and do not take assignments unless short-staffed.
House supervisors are also available 24/7.
Patient care technicians are on the unit, with ratios of 1:9-10 during the day and evening and 1:10-12 at night.
RNs primarily troubleshoot respiratory therapy equipment; high flow is used for stable COVID cases, which are rare.
Telemetry monitoring is house-wide; nurses do not need to read their own strips as Phillips monitors are used.
Schedule consists of 12-hour shifts with requests considered, and weekend requirements are every other weekend.
Holidays are also required on an every-other basis.
Floating may occur in rotation with staff, and float assignments will accommodate skill competence.
Tattoos must be covered while on duty, and no piercings except for ears are allowed.
Unit-specific orientation will be provided, including training on computer systems and patient care.
