Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical - Neuro Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 3 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Must have more than 3 years of experience with solid Medical Surgical or Telemetry background. Preferred stroke experience. First-time travelers are welcome. Description: Unit consists of 34 beds. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:3-4. Common diagnoses and types of patients include neuro conditions such as stroke, spine/back surgeries, cranial surgeries, neck issues, medical neuro disorders, neuro intervention procedures, Guillain Barre, Myasthenia Gravis, seizures, and EEG monitoring. Average patient length of stay is 2-5 days. Support is provided by Neuroscience NPs 24/7 for all neurosurgical and neuro intervention patients. Service area includes a large geographic region. Experience with titrating drips is not required. Charge RN is present with no assignment. House support is available for the entire facility. Certified Nursing Assistants are on the unit at a ratio of 1:8. Respiratory Therapy equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and High Flow. Respiratory Therapy is available as a resource. Telemetry or monitor technicians are not currently on the unit but will be implemented. Workflow for new monitors is still being established. Shift scheduling is managed by department managers. Weekend and holiday requirements are based on departmental need. There is no on-call or standby requirement. Travelers are the first to float to support all Medical Surgical areas. Dress code requires clean and professional attire. Unit-specific orientation consists of two days and a didactic session with an educator.
