Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Nurse Manager for a Level III NICU in a high-acuity acute care hospital setting. This leadership role supports both clinical operations and staff management within a specialized neonatal intensive care unit.

The ideal candidate will combine strong bedside NICU experience with leadership capability to oversee patient care coordination, staff development, and quality improvement initiatives in a fast-paced critical care environment.

This position plays a key role in maintaining clinical excellence, operational efficiency, and a supportive team culture focused on neonatal patient outcomes.


Key Responsibilities

Coordinate and oversee daily NICU patient care delivery
Support and supervise nursing staff in clinical practice
Assist in staffing, scheduling, onboarding, and performance evaluations
Drive quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
Ensure adherence to NICU clinical protocols and hospital policies
Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams
Support staff education, training, and professional development
Participate in operational planning and unit leadership decisions
Maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards
Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing team environment

Assignment Details

Shift: Day/Evening Leadership Schedule (8-hour shifts)
Schedule: As assigned by unit leadership (NICU coverage model)

Requirements

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in California required
BSN required (MSN preferred or in progress acceptable depending on employer policy)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (AHA)
Neonatal Intensive Care RN certification (or eligibility within 6 months of hire)
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within 90 days of hire
Prior NICU clinical experience required (Level III preferred)
Prior leadership or charge nurse experience strongly preferred
