Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Travel Contract)

San Antonio, TX

Schedule / Job Type

Contract (Travel) | 13 Weeks | Full-Time | Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) | Onsite | Every Other Weekend | 36 Guaranteed Hours per Week | No Call Requirements

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care on a 40-bed Medical-Surgical unit with a 1:5/6 patient ratio
  • Perform and manage IV peripheral starts and care, central line care, and insertion and care of Foley catheters
  • Manage tubes and drains including NG tubes, JP drains, chest tubes, and ostomy care
  • Care for post-surgical and trauma patients, including those with large wounds
  • Document patient care accurately using the Meditech electronic health record system
  • Float to other units as needed in accordance with facility floating policy
Required Qualifications
  • Active Texas RN License (temporary licenses are not accepted)
  • Current BLS certification
  • Minimum 2+ years of Medical-Surgical RN experience
  • Proficiency with Meditech charting system
  • Demonstrated competency with IV peripheral starts and care, central line care, Foley catheter insertion and care, and management of tubes and drains (NG, JP, chest tube, ostomy)
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience with tracheostomy care and wound vacs/large dressing changes
  • Experience with 3-way bladder irrigation
  • Strong patient teaching and communication skills, including use of patient communication boards
