Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical

Schedule / Job TypeContract | Nights | 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) | Every other weekend required | Holiday rotation required
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct nursing care to medical-surgical patients with diagnoses including pneumonia, heart failure, sepsis, COPD, urologic conditions, surgical cases, total joints, general surgery, and occasional pediatric respiratory illness
- Maintain nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5–6 on nights, collaborating closely with Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) through structured daily touchpoints
- Oversee and collaborate with PCTs to ensure completion of essential cares including Foley care, CHG bathing, and oral cares
- Monitor and interpret telemetry strips using Phillips monitoring system, supported by virtual central telemetry monitoring
- Participate in plan-of-care discussions and communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team including Charge Nurse and Administrative Supervisor
- Float as needed to ICU for general acute overflow patients or to a campus approximately 25 miles away based on staffing needs, with at least 2 hours advance notice for off-site float assignments
Required Qualifications- Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications
- Ability to monitor and interpret telemetry strips independently
- Compliance with drug-free workplace policy; must produce a negative drug screen for all panels
- Ability to work 12-hour night shifts with every-other-weekend and holiday rotation requirements
Preferred Experience / Skills- Minimum 2 years of medical-surgical RN experience preferred
- Previous travel nursing experience preferred
- PALS certification preferred
- Experience managing high-flow oxygen and BiPAP (home regimen) patients
