Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical

Contract | Nights (19:30–07:30) | Onsite | Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday) | Rotating holidays

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide post-operative and acute surgical care for a patient population that includes trauma, overflow medical, and post-op surgical patients
  • Perform and manage wound care, dressing changes, IV therapy, pain management, drain management, nasogastric tubes, central lines, and TPN
  • Administer and manage set-rate drips (Heparin); no drip titration required
  • Manage inhalers and place patients on CPAP as needed; collaborate with Respiratory Therapy for nebulizer treatments and high-flow oxygen
  • Work within a nurse-to-patient ratio of 5–6 patients per RN on night shifts, supported by PCTs and a dedicated charge RN on every shift
  • Float to units of equivalent experience level as needed; travelers are first to float
Required Qualifications
  • Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Demonstrated experience in post-operative patient care
  • Strong critical thinking skills and ability to recognize when to escalate care
  • Ability to work in a drug-free environment and produce a negative drug screen
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience with telemetry monitoring (Philips monitors in use; strip reading handled by central monitor techs)
  • Familiarity with EPIC electronic health records
  • Strong bedside manner and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
