Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Nights | 12-Hour Shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) | Onsite

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care on an acute care medical-surgical unit managing a wide range of diagnoses including GI bleeds, sepsis, cellulitis, CHF, DVT, pulmonary embolisms, osteomyelitis, and comfort measures
  • Maintain nurse-to-patient ratios of 5–6:1 on night shift, collaborating with PCT staff and charge RN resources available 24/7
  • Titrate Heparin drips per protocol and manage patients with oxygen requirements up to 6L NC, as well as stable BiPAP/CPAP
  • Monitor telemetry via house-wide telemetry department using unit-based Phillips equipment; interpret and respond to patient data accordingly
  • Perform IV starts and coordinate with the inpatient phlebotomy team for blood draws as needed
  • Float to other medical-surgical like units as needed; no ICU or chemotherapy patient assignments
Required Qualifications
  • Active Illinois RN licensure (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
  • Current BLS certification
  • Experience in a medical-surgical or acute care inpatient setting
  • Ability to titrate Heparin drips
  • Must comply with a drug-free workplace policy, including a negative drug screen for all panels
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience with telemetry monitoring and strip interpretation
  • Familiarity with Phillips monitoring equipment
  • Experience managing patients with BiPAP/CPAP and supplemental oxygen therapy
