Job Title
Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical
LocationNorfolk, NE
Schedule / Job TypeContract | Full-Time | Onsite | Day Shift (6:00 AM – 6:30 PM) | Weekends and holidays as needed
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care on a 38-bed Medical Surgical unit, managing a patient ratio of 1:5–6 with the ability to take up to 6 patients
- Care for a diverse patient population including adults and possibly older teens presenting with diagnoses such as pneumonia, UTI, dehydration, influenza, alcohol withdrawal, and respiratory illness, as well as surgical patients (orthopedic, general surgery, spinal, and urology)
- Titrate and manage drips including Heparin; administer set-rate drips such as Bumex and Lasix
- Conduct bedside shift reports and perform proactive patient rounding
- Collaborate with CNAs, charge nurses, cardiac techs, and respiratory therapy to ensure coordinated patient care; assist with answering call lights as part of team expectations
- May float to the IMCU for Medical Surgical assignments as needed
Required Qualifications- Active RN license valid for the state of practice
- Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience
- Current BLS certification
- Proficiency with EPIC electronic health records documentation
- Ability to manage a 1:6 patient ratio
- Experience with bedside shift report
Preferred Experience / Skills- Experience with respiratory therapy equipment including trachs, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen
- Familiarity with telemetry monitoring workflows (cardiac tech support available 24/7; RNs are not required to read their own strips)
- Experience working in a high-turnover environment with frequent admissions and discharges
