The Role

Our client, an acute care hospital in Las Cruces, New Mexico, is seeking a Registered Nurse to join the Medical/Surgical unit. This is a full-time permanent position caring for a broad patient population across general medicine and post-operative surgical diagnoses. The successful candidate will bring strong foundational nursing skills, clinical judgement, and a commitment to patient-centred care within a supportive interdisciplinary environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver skilled nursing care to a diverse medical/surgical patient population across a range of diagnoses and post-operative presentations
  • Perform thorough nursing assessments, develop and implement individualised care plans, and evaluate patient response to interventions
  • Administer medications, IV therapy, wound care, and other treatments in accordance with physician orders and facility protocols
  • Monitor patients for clinical changes and escalate concerns to the physician or rapid response team as appropriate
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record
  • Collaborate with physicians, case managers, allied health professionals, and the interdisciplinary care team to coordinate patient care and discharge planning
  • Educate patients and families on diagnosis, medications, procedures, and discharge instructions
  • Participate in quality improvement, safety initiatives, and unit-based professional development activities
  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards, infection control protocols, and all applicable regulatory requirements

Requirements

Must-Have

  • Current New Mexico RN licence (or compact licence eligibility)
  • Associate's degree in Nursing (ADN) minimum; BSN preferred
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required upon hire
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) required within 6 months of hire
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) required within 6 months of hire
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) required within 6 months of hire

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Minimum 1 year of medical/surgical nursing experience
  • Minimum 1 year of registered nursing experience in an acute care setting
  • Experience with EMR documentation and care coordination in a med/surg environment
