Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Post-Op)

Contract | Nights | 3x12-Hour Shifts (18:45–07:15)

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care on a post-operative Medical Surgical unit specializing in post-op GI and wound care
  • Manage patients with diagnoses including pancreatitis, GI bleeds, bowel obstructions, bowel perforation, wound infections, diverticulitis, and trauma cases
  • Care for patients following complex surgical procedures such as Whipple, esophagectomy, pancreatectomy, colectomy, bariatric surgery, hepatic resection, and related operations
  • Operate and monitor specialized equipment including PEG/PEJ tubes, PCA pumps, wound vacs, JP drains, hemovacs, nephrostomy tubes, and ostomy appliances
  • Deliver post-operative assessments, wound care management, and patient education in alignment with unit protocols
  • Respond to facility emergency events as assigned by unit management, which may include remaining on-site until an event concludes or serving on a relief team
Required Qualifications
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license – Compact or Louisiana license required and must be in hand at time of submittal
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Medical Surgical or post-operative nursing
  • Demonstrated experience working full-time on a post-operative unit
  • Acute care experience required
  • Minimum of one completed travel contract required prior to submission
  • Current AHA certifications required; NURSYS report required and must be dated within 4 weeks of submission
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience managing surgical drains including colostomy, JP drains, and wound vac systems
  • Familiarity with post-operative care following GI, bariatric, urologic, and oncologic surgical procedures
  • Prior travel nursing experience with demonstrated adaptability in fast-paced acute care environments
