Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Major Trauma / Neuro Surgery)

Schedule / Job TypeContract | Nights | 3x12-Hour Shifts (18:45–07:15)
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care on a major trauma unit managing diagnoses including multi-trauma, TBI, stroke, seizure, sepsis, GSW, falls, ortho-related trauma, and neurological conditions such as epidural hematomas and cerebral edema
- Assist with and provide post-operative care for procedures including craniotomies, spinal fusions, ORIF, muscle flaps, skin grafts, amputations, IM nails, external fixators, and spinal stimulators
- Manage specialized equipment including traction, external fixators, PCA pumps, wound vacs, chest tubes, central lines, tracheostomies, PEG tubes, NG tubes, JP drains, and hemo vacs
- Perform blood product administration, PICC line management, IV insertion, and maintain isolation precautions as required
- Float to other inpatient units as needed per staffing requirements
- Participate in emergency response team assignments as directed by unit management during emergency events
Required Qualifications- Active Compact or Louisiana RN license in hand at time of submission
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Medical Surgical or Trauma specialty nursing
- Current BLS certification (AHA required)
- Demonstrated experience with pre- and post-neuro surgery care, TBI management, and ortho trauma
- Proficiency with chest tube management, surgical drains, PICC line management, blood product administration, and IV insertion
- NURSYS report required and must be current within 4 weeks of submission date
Preferred Experience / Skills- ACLS certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Neuro surgery clinical background
