Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical (Nights)

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care on a 24-bed Medical Surgical unit serving as the facility's stroke unit, with a night shift patient ratio of 1:6
  • Safely administer medications including heparin, cardizem, and amiodarone as ordered
  • Care for patients with neurological conditions, including stroke patients, utilizing NIH Stroke Scale assessment skills
  • Float between Medical Surgical and Stepdown units as needed
  • Document patient care accurately and thoroughly using EPIC EMR
  • Participate in required holiday coverage during designated summer holidays
Required Qualifications
  • Active Iowa RN license (verified through Nursys or State of Iowa)
  • Minimum of 12 months of Medical Surgical experience required; minimum of 18 months of total hospital or medical center nursing experience required
  • 24 months of current Med Surg, Medical Surgical, Oncology, or Neurology experience reflected in work history
  • Demonstrated experience administering heparin, cardizem, and amiodarone
  • Experience caring for neurology patients
  • Active BLS certification through AHA or ARC
  • Valid driver's license
  • Med Surg, Oncology, or Neurology-specific skills checklist
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience caring for oncology patients
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification (may be obtained during onboarding)
  • EPIC EMR experience
  • Professional reference from a charge nurse, supervisor, nurse manager, director, CNO, or COO within the past 24 months
