Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Adult Medical Specialty Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience License: Active state license required Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Experience with Central Lines, tracheostomies, chest tubes. EPIC experience preferred. Travel experience on a MedSurg Floor preferred. Experience in a Level I trauma center may be considered without travel experience if EPIC experience is available. Description: Unit has a total of 56 beds, including private and semi-private rooms. Patient-to-nurse ratios are 1:4-5 from 07:00 to 23:00 and 1:5-6 from 23:00 to 07:30. Common diagnoses include cellulitis, sepsis, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, syncope, anemia, uncontrolled diabetes, acute respiratory failure, liver failure, kidney failure, and behavioral health issues. Nurses are not required to titrate drips. Common titratable and set rate drips include Heparin and Lasix. There is a charge nurse available on each shift to assist. Patient Care Technicians assist with vital signs, blood glucose checks, bladder scans, and activities of daily living, with a ratio of 1:8-10. Respiratory equipment used on the unit includes BiPAP and CPAP for sleep apnea, as well as inhalers and suctioning. Telemetry monitoring is done remotely, and nurses can view strips on their devices. Shifts are scheduled as three 12-hour shifts from 07:00 to 19:30, with self-scheduling and block scheduling options available. Weekend requirements are every other weekend for both days and nights. No on-call or standby requirements are expected. There may be floating to other acute care general medical areas. Professional scrubs are required with no visible tattoos or piercings except for earrings. Unit-specific orientation typically lasts 2-3 shifts.
