Job Title: Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Active Illinois license or confirmation that application process has been initiated Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Candidate must understand that this is a Drug-Free Campus and must produce a negative drug screen for all panels. Description: This is a medical surgical unit with a combination of private and semi-private rooms. The unit has 37 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio during the day shift is 1:4-6 and for the night shift is 1:5-6. Electronic medical records are managed using EPIC. Charge nurses are typically available 24/7 depending on the schedule and may take patient assignments if needed. Nurse aides are present with a ratio of 1:10-15. Weekend work is required every other weekend for both day and night shifts. Holiday work may be required based on scheduling, typically every other holiday if needed. Scrubs can be any color, and approved logo gear may be worn with scrub pants. Patients requiring telemetry are admitted, with monitoring handled by a central monitoring technician. Lasix and Heparin drips are the most common infusions on this unit. Ventilators are not used in this unit, but patients needing BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow oxygen are accommodated. There are multiple hospitalists on the day shift, with advanced practitioner coverage at night. Pharmacy support is available 24/7. Shifts are 12 hours, with day shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM and night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM. Self-scheduling is available, but the manager will primarily create schedules due to the short contract terms, while accommodating block scheduling when possible. Floating to another floor may occur if competencies are met, with full patient assignments including ICU RNs. Orientation includes 2 days in the department and 1 day focused on hospital/EMR orientation. Common diagnoses treated include COPD, Sepsis, CVA, COVID, Pneumonia, and various surgical procedures.
