Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Day/Night Rotate Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: RN License Required Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Must have 1 year of experience. First-time travelers are accepted. Description: Unit has a total of 48 beds. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:5-7 on days and 1:6-8 on nights. Common patient diagnoses include pneumonia, UTI, altered mental status, GI bleed, alcohol withdrawal, and falls/weakness. RNs are required to titrate certain drips, except for cardiac drip titration. Common titratable drips include heparin, Bumex, and Lasix. There are 2 Charge Nurses on day shifts who take patient assignments. If only 1 Charge Nurse is scheduled at night, they do not take a patient assignment. There are nurse aides/patient care techs with an average ratio of 1:10-12. Job duties for aides include vitals, blood glucose monitoring, EKGs, applying heart monitors, bathing, feeding, toileting, and turning and positioning patients. Respiratory Therapists administer treatments and manage respiratory equipment, while RNs primarily monitor these devices. Monitor techs read and monitor telemetry for all patients and will alert RNs of any issues. RNs are not expected to interpret telemetry strips. Shifts for RNs are from 7 AM to 7 PM. There is no self-scheduling or block scheduling; the schedule is created by the manager. RNs are expected to have flexibility to fill gaps in the schedule. Weekend requirements involve working every other weekend. Holiday assignment may be required on a rotational basis. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating may occur to assist with lower acuity patients as needed. RNs are required to wear navy blue scrubs. Unit/department specific orientation consists of 1 day with an educator and 1 day with a preceptor. Cancellation policy allows clients to cancel 2 shifts per 13-week assignment. The charting system used is EPIC. BSN is not required for this position. Required certifications include BLS certification.
