Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS Certification Must-Have: Willingness to work with both clean and dirty patients Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in Medical Surgical. The role requires working 12-hour night shifts with a weekend commitment. Guaranteed hours are 36 hours per week. The unit consists of 29 beds, all of which are private. The nurse-to-patient ratio is approximately 1:6-7. A charge nurse or house supervisor is available for support. The unit has a clinical manager who acts as both charge nurse and nurse manager during the week. Staffing includes two certified nursing assistants during the day shift. No certified nursing assistants are available during nights. Weekend work includes two Saturdays and/or Sundays per schedule. Most staff arrange their schedules to work Friday through Sunday to fulfill weekend requirements. All staff must participate in the holiday rotation. Uniforms are navy blue, including jackets if worn. Patients may be on remote telemetry. The unit does not have monitors on-site but uses a remote monitoring system. The unit primarily admits post-surgical, orthopedic, medical-surgical, pneumonia, dialysis, palliative care, hospice, and end-of-life patients. Inpatient chemotherapy volume is low, with administration managed by the director and manager. Currently, COVID patients are housed on the unit, designated as either clean or dirty patients. Staff must be comfortable working with both clean and dirty patients. Cancellation policy allows for two shift cancellations within a 13-week assignment. Charting is performed using Cerner. Floating to other medical-surgical units may be required as needed. The position offers self-scheduling and blocked scheduling options when unit needs are met.
