Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS Certification Must-Have: Must be comfortable caring for clean and dirty patients Description: This position is for a Medical Surgical unit. Candidates must work weekends as scheduled. The unit consists of 28 private beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6-7. A charge nurse and house supervisor are present during shifts. A resource nurse is available during night shifts to carry a full patient assignment. Two certified nursing assistants (CNAs) are available during day shifts but not at night. Nurses must be willing to work every other weekend and two Fridays per schedule. Scrubs must be navy blue, and any jackets worn must also be navy blue. Patients may be on remote telemetry, with no monitors in the unit. Heparin and possibly morphine for comfort measures may be administered. Bipap, Cpap, and high flow oxygen are managed by respiratory therapists. Floating may occur to other medical surgical units. One shift of floor-specific orientation with a preceptor is required. Common diagnoses include post-surgical cases, orthopedic cases, respiratory issues such as pneumonia, and hospice or palliative care. The nurse may be assigned to both clean and dirty patients. Candidates must have the ability to adapt to various patient situations.
