The unit specializes in MedSurg/Infectious Disease. Candidates must have travel experience and EPIC experience. The unit has 18 beds, all private rooms due to infectious diseases. Patient ratios typically range from 1:5-6, and 1:4 if COVID patients are present. Typically, the unit is staffed with 3-4 RNs per shift. BLS is the only required certification for this position. Common diagnoses include infectious diseases and conditions such as COVID, MRSA, and C-Diff. Candidates should have a strong knowledge in MedSurg, infectious diseases, and isolation precautions. RNs are not required to titrate cardiac drips but will manage common titratable medications. A charge nurse is present on the unit 24/7. The night charge nurse always takes a full patient assignment. There are two CNAs per shift to assist on the unit. Respiratory therapy equipment may include CPAP, BiPAP, or high-flow, managed per respiratory therapists. Remote telemetry monitoring is available, with RN staff not required to read or interpret strips. Shifts are from 0700-1930 and 1900-0730, with a 30-minute lunch break. Self-scheduling is available for permanent staff, while travelers will be scheduled based on unit needs. Block scheduling is allowed, as long as unit needs are met. The weekend requirement is for every other weekend, with shifts covering Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Holidays will depend on unit needs, and travelers may be expected to work on holidays if permanent staff cannot cover. Floating may be required, with travelers being the first to float to other MedSurg units. Scrub color is royal blue; scrub jackets are not required but must be royal blue if worn. Jackets must be actual scrub jackets; hoodies or sweat jackets are not permitted. There is one day of orientation with a preceptor before independence on the third day. The cancellation policy allows clients to cancel two shifts per 13-week assignment.
