o Beds: 10
o Experience? 2 years
o First-time traveler? Upon Review; at minimal 2 years
Patient Types:
o High Acuity patients, Cardiac Step Down (no step down at this facility), post procedure cardiac patients, PD, secondary stroke unit, CHF, ENSRD, telemetry required, read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips independently, general MS
Patient Ratios:
o RN: Days – 1:4-5; Nights 1:5
o Typically 3 RNs per shift; 2 Night shift
o Tech: Days – 1:5; Nights 1:5-10; 2 CNAs
Required Certifications:
o BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
Skills required
o Read/interpret strips, Cardiac drips (Amiodarone, Cardizem), Pull Sheaths( perm staff), monitor site sheath site, Pre/Post Cardiac Cath experience( femoral/radial) , chest tube. Non titrating nitro, non titrating dobutamine (ICU if titrated), post pacemaker
Support on the Unit:
o Charge nurse: take patient assignment
o Phlebotomy? Shared responsibility with RN for blood draws
o RT, 24/7
o Hospitalist, 24/7
o OT, PT, ST
o IV Team- Monday, Wednesday, Friday day shift only
Charting System/Equipment:
o EPIC- REQUIRED
o Alaris
o Pyxis
Floating:
o In rotation to other MS areas
Orientation:
o 1-2 shift to learn flow
Scheduling:
o Weekend rotation: every 3rd (default)
o Can we approve time off? Ask permission from Manager
o Will they be on call? If so, what is that schedule? No, low census in 4 hour increments (mainly nights)
o Holiday Expectations: 1 summer, 1 winter (flexibility)- Christmas Eve/Day or New Years Eve/Day
