The competent nurse practices independently and demonstrates awareness of all relevant aspects of clinical situations. They provide routine and complex care while developing the ability to manage contingencies in clinical nursing. They are responsible for making appropriate assignments and delegating tasks to other care providers to help manage clinical situations. Consistent with nursing standards of practice, the nurse provides care by utilizing the nursing process. This includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients. The nurse addresses increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families. Using appropriate protocols, they administer medications and treatments while monitoring for side effects and treatment effectiveness. Documentation of patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided is required. The nurse assesses learning needs and provides education to patients, family members, and caregivers by identifying issues and resources.
