Job Title: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse Float Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required License: Active Registered Nurse license Certifications: BLS, NIHSS preferred Must-Have: - Floating required to all campus locations - Epic experience preferred - Weekend shifts required, equal to one per week - May be assigned as primary RN in any med-surg department or as a 1:1 observer Description: Floating is required to all campus locations. Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of nursing experience. Epic experience is preferred but not mandatory. Weekend shifts are required, equal to one per week of contact. Candidates may be assigned to any medical surgical unit in the system. May also be assigned as a 1:1 observer in any clinical department. Caring for boarding medical surgical patients in the emergency department may also be expected. The position may include various patient diagnoses such as COPD, stroke, total joint surgery, sepsis, colorectal surgery, bariatric surgery, pneumonia, trauma, altered mental status, renal failure, bowel obstruction, oncology, and withdrawal. Candidates should be experienced with managing chest tubes, central lines, medications, and various medical equipment. Responsibilities include administering IVs, blood products, and managing other patient care activities. Candidates must be comfortable floating to different departments as necessary based on facility needs. Clinical support includes IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, social services, and pharmacy. Daily patient care involves a diverse range of age groups including adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. The position may involve daily interaction with interdisciplinary teams for comprehensive patient care.
