Candidates will be required to float to Telemetry units. A dysrhythmia exam must be passed before signing the contract. There is a 50-mile radius rule; local rates do not apply. Client Pre-Screens are required, and an auto offer may follow if clinical recommends. Candidates must pass the dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance of the position. There are two attempts for the exam. If a candidate fails, they will not be eligible for 6 months in specified regions. Travelers must have their own vehicles. Natural hair colors are required, and facial piercings are not allowed. Men must be clean-shaven for fit tests. A pass/fail exam will be administered on the first day of orientation. All RNs are expected to complete a skills lab for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes. Failure to maintain sterile technique may result in termination from the skills lab. Competency in sterile technique and nursing skills is expected. Training will include lifts, restraints, and wound care, which are educational-based. The unit has 22 private rooms. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4-5. Common diagnoses include post-operative care, sepsis, pneumonia, COPD, diabetes, and infections. Heparin is the only medication that requires titration on this unit. Telemetry is not specified in this department, but skills may be required for floating to other units. There are charge nurses and a House Supervisor available 24/7. There are no patient care technicians on the unit; a resource RN will be utilized in addition to the charge RN. Respiratory therapy is assigned to the unit. Schedules are self-scheduled, made four weeks in advance. Weekends require three weekend days per pay period. Holiday requirements are integrated into the permanent staff rotation. Travelers are the first to float to other medical/surgical/telemetry areas. Navy blue scrubs are the required attire. There will be two shifts of orientation with a preceptor. This is a new unit, with ongoing development and team building. Cancellation policy allows for up to four shifts to be canceled during a 13-week assignment. The charting system in use is Cerner. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is not required.
