Job Title: RN Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 1+ years License: Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Experience in ICU Description: The position involves providing care in a medical surgical intensive care unit. The unit consists of 12 ICU beds and 6 Stepdown beds. The ICU beds are monitored 24/7 in addition to admitting providers. The nurse-patient ratio in the ICU is 1:2-3, depending on acuity, and 1:4 in the stepdown unit. The facility has capabilities for balloon pumps, although they typically are not assigned to travelers. The use of the Arctic Sun for patient care has been supported by literature. Monitor technicians operate 24/7 on the unit. Patient care techs are utilized as needed based on census. Sitters are available if necessary. Spacelab bedside monitors are used for both ICU and stepdown environments. Overflow patients may be accommodated on both units. The role includes implementing and monitoring patient care plans. The nurse will monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions as appropriate. This individual serves as the primary coordinator for well-coordinated patient care among all disciplines. The nurse will note and execute physician and nursing orders. They will also assess and coordinate patients’ discharge planning needs with the healthcare team.
